The State Bar of Texas, the Texas Access to Justice Commission, the American Bar Association, and others proudly support National Pro Bono Celebration Week (Oct. 23-29). Pro Bono week is an opportunity to educate the public about the good work the legal community does to improve the lives of vulnerable Texans and to encourage more individuals to get involved in pro bono support of the legal system.
During the week we will feature stories of pro bono volunteers that first appeared in LegalFront, an electronic publication put out by the Legal Access Division of the State Bar of Texas.
DeeAnn Strother
DeeAnn Strother — Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas’ Fort Worth office
DeeAnn Strother began volunteering with LANWT while attending law school. A former educator for Cleburne Independent School District, Strother’s primary practice area is family law.
After being admitted to the Texas Bar, she opened a private practice in Johnson County. Strother volunteers at the Johnson County evening legal clinic, where she interviews applicants and accepts pro bono cases.
As an active member of the Johnson County Bar Association, Strother promotes pro bono volunteerism and the need for assisting low-income clients in Johnson County.
“I encourage every attorney to take two or three pro bono cases per year,” Strother told LegalFront. “By doing so, they would make a great impact on those who need legal services but cannot afford to hire a private attorney.”
