Legal Links – October 9, 2015

On Fridays, we compile and post Legal Links, a list of legal news, reported cases, community events and topics of interest to Lancaster residents and readers of the Lancaster Law Blog.

1. Butt Dialing: With a Vengeance. Following up from our earlier commentary on the privacy implications of butt-dialing, butt dials are in the news again. This time, a new report suggests that 911 dispatchers are wasting a significant amount of time dealing with butt dials, which could cause longer response times for first responders and wasted resources.

2. What Kind of Bear is Best? Dwight Schrute thinks that’s a ridiculous question, but Chase Dwello would almost certainly choose any bear aside from a grizzly bear after his experience while hunting in Montana. He stumbled upon a 350-400 pound grizzly and managed to survive an attack thanks to advice from his grandmother. Read more about the wild story here.

3. Leaf Peepers Unite! A one-day-only event for leaf peepers (my new favorite term) and common-folk alike: an autumn foliage packed driving tour through scenic Dauphin and Lebanon counties will be held on Sunday, October 18. 4. Bourbon Lottery. The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board is putting on a lottery for 24 barrels of rare bourbon beginning on Tuesday, October 13. If you’re interested in participating in the lottery, you must register at FineWineAndGoodSpirits.com before 11:00 pm on Saturday.
