Coast Guard Cruise Ship MedevacYesterday, the U.S. Coast Guard medevaced a 17 year old passenger from the Carnival Dream.

The Carnival cruise ship was around 170 miles southeast of South West Pass, Louisiana, heading back to New Olreans after a Caribbean cruise.

The Dream contacted the Coast Guard stations in New Orleans at 8 a.m. indicating that the passenger had suffered a seizure.

The Coast Guard station in New Orleans launched a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew and the Coast Center in  Mobile launched an HC-144 aircraft for support.

The helicopter arrived at the cruise ship around 12:30 p.m. and hoisted the young man, his mother, and a cruise ship nurse and flew them to a hospital in New Orleans.

The Coast Guard has medevaced at least a half dozen ill or injured passengers from the Carnival Dream south of New Orleans in the last several years.
